THIS CLASS IS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION.  PLEASE CLICK ON REGISTRATION ON THE MAIN PAGE AND PAY FOR THE CONFERENCE.The usual capture for a Milky Way photo has a histogram “exposed to the left” and a rather disappointing jpeg out of the camera, both for good reasons. However the camera sensor sees color, detail and many stars which our eyes cannot. Post-processing is needed to develop the drama inherent in the raw file. Developing Milky Way images to their full potential will stretch your digital darkroom a bit but it is not magic. I will demonstrate several examples in Lightroom and Photoshop. When the foreground lighting requires a different exposure, it will require two or more images with some old-fashioned hand masked HDR techniques.

Pretty easy, right? When you leave behind the security of Auto Mode, there is a whole world of creativity waiting at your fingertips. This doesn’t have to be as scary as most people think. In this class we will look at exposure in a simplified way and get to the heart of what an exposure is. We will answer questions like, “What is the correct exposure?” along with learning how to use the light in your image to control and lead the viewers eye.
